This first trip to Kenya has left me asking one simple question… why?
Why had I waited so long to experience something so powerful? Why are so many stories like this unseen by the world? And why did this journey impact me in ways I never expected?
A Seamless Journey with Purpose
I had the privilege of traveling with Mike One Travel and Helping Hands and Beyond Inc. From the very beginning, every detail was thoughtfully organized, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the experience.
I arrived expecting a great trip, beautiful landscapes, new culture, and the long-awaited chance to experience Mother Africa. But what I received was so much deeper than I ever imagined.
A Life-Changing Experience
One of the most impactful moments of this journey was visiting Kibera in Nairobi, one of the largest informal settlements in the world.
I don’t think I have the words to fully express what that visit did to my heart. Knowing that over a million people are living in such conditions is something that stays with you. It challenges your perspective, humbles your assumptions, and forces you to reflect on realities far beyond your own.
This wasn’t just a visit, it was an awakening.
A Day at the Primary School
The following day, we visited a primary school located in another underserved community. This experience is one I will carry with me for a long time.
We spent time with the headmaster, who shared the story behind the school—how it was founded, the history of the area, and the daily realities faced by the students. Despite the challenges, there was a sense of resilience, hope, and determination that was deeply inspiring.
It was a powerful reminder of the importance of education and the impact of community-driven efforts.
When Travel Becomes a Calling
Moments like these don’t just stay as memories, they call you to action.
This journey shifted something within me. It made me realize that travel is not just about seeing new places—it’s about connecting, understanding, and contributing where you can.
Looking Ahead: A Mission for 2027
Because of this experience, I am planning to organize a mission trip back to Nairobi in 2027.
This will be more than just a trip, it will be an opportunity to give back, to support communities, and to create meaningful change together.
